Suspects killed in Dhaka raid belong to JMB: RAB -The Asian Age

The RAB drive at militant den in capital's Nakhalpara ended yesterday with the recovery of three suspected militants' bodies. Grenades, two pistols, three suicidal Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), three belts and huge amount of bomb-making explosives were also recovered from the hideout.

Identities of the deceased could not be known. The bodies were sent to the DMCH morgue for autopsy. RAB suspected that they were members of Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and they probably had a plan to conduct attacks on different important installations in the country, said RAB spokesman Mufti Mahmud Khan.

Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team raided the six-storied building of Rubi Villa in Nakhalpara at around 2:00am yesterday. Earlier, the law enforcers had conducted drives thrice at the building in 2013 and 2016. Alongside, Tejgaon police in a drive arrested Jama'at-Shibir activists from the same building one year ago, while they were planning to carry out sabotage.

Khan said, "We had primary information that, those, who were residing in the house, were members of JMB. But, we don't have details about them. A man introducing himself as Jahid rented the house on the 5th floor as a mess using a fake NID card. The so-called Jahid had been living there along with his two brothers since January 4. Building owner Sabbir rented the house to them through the caretaker Rubel."

Law enforcers entered into the house after breaking open the iron grills and shifted the local residents to safer places.  Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the suspected militants opened fire targeting them. In retaliation, RAB also fired back. In the gunfight, two RAB forces were injured. They were taken to DMCH for treatment.

Khan further said, "The militants had a plan to blow up the whole building. For this purpose, they put grenades and IEDs on the gas stoves releasing gas and setting fire. Benazir Ahmed, DG of RAB said, "The deceased, aged between 20 and 30, might have been killed from suicide blasts. Samples of grenades and other explosives were recovered from the spot. RAB picked up building owner Sabbir  and caretaker Rubel for interrogation."
