Over thousand colleges get no student

The Ministry of Education may close down more than one thousand college across the country as these colleges failed to impart standard quality education. Not a single student has expressed his desire to get admitted into one of the 1036 colleges in the country for studying his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) course, sources in the Education Ministry said.

No student has submitted his application for getting admission into 173 colleges while 866 colleges across the country did not get any student for enrollment.

In this current year, a total of 13 lakh 19 thousand six hundred 75 students applied for getting admission into the first year HSC courses in the country, the sources said adding that 12 lakh 38 thousand two hundred and 52 students were nominated by the Inter-education Board authorities for getting admission to courses mentioned.

It is 96 per cent of the students seeking admission into the courses, the sources said.The Inter-Education Board authorities permitted a student to choose 10 of the colleges for getting admission for himself.

According to the need of the student, the board authorities prepared the result of the admission test. In the result, no student desired to get admitted into 1036 colleges of the country. The Board authorities allow another 866 colleges for getting admission there, but no student expresse4d their willingness for studying there.

Professor Harunur Rashid, Inspector of Colleges of Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board told The Asian Age that a group of corrupt people in connivance with the ministry concverned and the education board started setting up colleges in the country ignoring the standard and quality of education.

The mushroom growth of colleges in the country failed to draw the attention of the students for getting admission, he added.The government will take stern actions against these colleges, the Inspector Colleges said adding that the ministry has been taking steps to close down these institutions.

He further said that the Ministry of Education in 2016 closed down 216 private colleges in the country of its failure in drawing the attention of the student. No student were admitted these college in 2016.

Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Secondary and Higher Education Mohammad Sohrab Hossain said that the ministry has a plan to close down 143 colleges for its failure in attracting any student for enrolment.
