'Khaleda to be taken to CMH if BNP wants'
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said on Tuesday that Bangladesh Nationalist Party's (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia would be taken to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) if her party agrees. CMH is the best-equipped hospital in the country, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal further said.
Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal added that the government has taken all required steps for Khaleda Zia's proper medical treatment. Khaleda Zia's younger brother Shameem Iskander applied to Home Ministry on Tuesday to get Khaleda Zia admitted in the capital's United Hospital.
A delegation team of three members visited Secretariat on Tuesday and submitted this letter. Shameem Iskander expressed worries about Khaleda Zia's health condition in the letter. He requested the Home Minister to allow Khaleda Zia to be placed in United Hospital for further treatment and medical tests without delay.
He stated that Khaleda Zia's family would bear all the expenses for her treatment in United Hospital. On the other hand, Khaleda Zia expressed unwillingness to go to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Tuesday for treatment.
Earlier on June 9, four personal physicians of the BNP chairperson expressed fear that she might have suffered a mild stroke at the Old Central Jail. Later, the jail authorities took an initiative to conduct medical tests requested by her personal physicians and said all those tests would be conducted at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
On February 8, Khaleda Zia was sent to jail after a special court sentenced her to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
