'Sundarbans to be freed of robbers by Oct'

  • Print

Announcing that the Sundarbans will be freed of robbers by October next, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) Director General Benazir Ahmed yesterday asked the bandits to surrender by this time to escape dire consequences.

He came up with the announcement while addressing a program in Barisal marking the distribution of eid gifts among the forest robbers who have already surrendered to the elite force and inauguration of a rehabilitation project at the Rab-8 headquarters.

About the war on drugs, the Rab chief alleged that a vested quarter is trying to foil the countrywide anti-narcotic drive. "However, no conspiracy will be successful," he said.

Rab members are working to eliminate the demand of drugs alongside stopping their supply, he said.At the program, sewing machines were distributed among 20 families while financial assistance to four families for education apart from eid gifts to all the robbers who have so far surrendered to Rab.
