Helpline 999: Police arrest ‘rapist’

  • Print
Police have arrested a man for allegedly raping an 8-year-old girl in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur following a complaint lodged through the national emergency helpline 999.

Police said a person dialled the number on Monday morning and alleged there were attempts to conceal the rape that happened on Saturday.

Mohammadpur Police Station OC Jamal Uddin Mir told media they arrested ‘Imran’, 22, the alleged rapist, in the afternoon.

The girl’s mother started a case against Imran for allegedly raping her daughter who was sent to the police’s victim support centre.

Police, Fire Service and ambulance services can be had by dialling 999 from mobile or fixed telephones.

The helpline was officially launched in December last year after one year of test run.
