Two women die due to wrong treatment
Allegations have been raised about the death of two women due to wrong treatment following delivery at DMT Safeway Hospital in Sylhet. The deceased were identified as Asma Begum, (24) wife of Shakhawat Hossain, hailing from Kollo village under Khadimpara union of Sylhet Sadar upazila, and Foyjunnahar (22), wife of Rubel Ahmed, from Chunahati village under Nijpat union of Jointapur upazila. Kaiyum Al Roni, brother of Asma Begum, complained that Dr Minti Sinha conducted a surgery on his sister at night before birth pain had aroused. She gave birth to a baby girl through caesarean delivery.
Later, Asma Begum died in the morning after an injection was given to her by a novice doctor, even though her condition was normal, Roni said. In another incident, Foyjunnahar underwent a surgery, operated by Dr Minti Sinha, at the night. She gave birth to a baby boy, Rubel Ahmed, husband of Foyjunnahar said.
An on-duty doctor, namely Ashraf, pushed an injection around 7 am when her condition was worse. However, Foyjunnahar's condition aggravated with this injection, and she died around 7:30 am, Rubel said. Following the death of the patient, doctors advised me to move her to Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
