Youth Games: Hasan, Rupa, Sharmin, Shawon win gold medals in athletics

Hasan Miah, Rupa Khatun, Sharmin Akhter and Mahmudul Hasan Shawon won gold medals in the Bangladesh Youth Games Athletics competition at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Tuesday.

BKSP athlete Hasan Miah, an athlete of Chittagaong Division, clinched the gold medal in the boys 200-meter sprint clocking 22.00 seconds while another BKSP athlete Rupa Khatun of Rajshahi Division win the gold medal in the girls 200-meter sprint with a timing of 26.00 seconds.

Sharmin Akhter of Dhaka Division won the gold medal in the girls’ shot put covering a Distance of 8.87 meters while Mahmudul Hasan Shawon of Dhaka division clinched the gold medal in the boys’ discus throw covering a distance of 32. 95 meters.

The most attractive competition of the 14 event athletics of the games—boys and girls 100-meter sprints will be held on March 16, the last day of the games.

Handball:

Rajshahi Division clinched the girls’ handball crown beating Mymensingh Division by 22-17 goals in the final after leading the first half by 14-5 at the Shaheed Capt (retd) M Mansur Ali Handball Stadium here on Tuesday.

The boys’ handball final will be held on Wednesday at the same venue.

Wresting:

Khulna Division emerged champions in both boys’ and girls’ wrestling competitions securing four gold, a silver and six bronze medals. Chittagong Division finished runners-up collecting six including four gold medals.

Football:

Rangpur Division and Chittagong Division won the bronze medals in the boys’ and girls’ football of the meet respectively.

In the day’s 3rd place deciding matches, Rangpur Division beating Dhaka Division by 3-0 goals while Chittagong, riding on a hat trick by Champa Marma, outplayed Khulna Division by 6-0 goals at the Kamalapur Stadium here on Tuesday.

Hockey:

Dhaka Division and Khulna Division reached the final of the girls’ hockey eliminating Rangpur and Rajshahi Divisions in the semifinals at the Maulana Bhasani Nation al Stadium here on Tuesday.  

Dhaka booked a seat for the final eliminating Rangpur Division by 3-2 goals while Khulna reached the final outplaying Rajshahi by 4-0 goals.

The boys groups of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions advanced to the final.

In the day’s semis, Rangpur beat Dhaka by 2-1 goals while Rajshahi outplayed Chittagong by 5-0 goals to reach the final.

Squash:

Chiitagong Division won the gold medals in both boys and girls groups of the games at the BAF Shaheen School court on Tuesday.

Chittagong beat Khulna by 2-1 sets in the boys final while they beat Barisal by 2-0 sets in the girls’ final.
