5 institutes fined for only English signboards
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) fined five organizations Tk 50,000 each at Azampur area of Uttara in the capital on Monday for not using Bangla in the signboards."They were fined for using foreign languages in the signboards instead of Bengali, violating the apex court verdict," a DNCC official said. In a mobile court drive led by Executive Magistrate Khalid Ahmed fined Shanto-Mariam University, Rahim Afroz, Se Shell, Bata and Akhter Furniture and removed signboards of the organizations instantly.
The drive has started against signboards, nameplates, banners and festoons written in foreign languages aimed at ensuring use of Bengali everywhere in line with the High Court (HC) order. Following the HC directive, the DNCC on January 28 issued an order, asking the authorities to remove within seven days signboards, billboards, nameplates and banners written in foreign languages.
