Japanese held with 11kg gold at HSIA

Customs officials arrested a Japanese national along with 11 gold bars, each weighing about 1 kg, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital yesterday. Assistant Commissio-ner of Customs (Preven-tive team) at the airport Taijul Islam told media that Kengo Shibata, 42, landed at the airport by a Regent Airways flight coming from Singapore around 12:40am.

Acting on tip off, the customs officials intercepted him at  the green channel of the airport and recovered the gold worth Tk 5.50 crore searching his body, Taijul said. Later, they detained the Japanese national and handed him over to Airport Police Station. A case was also filed in this regard.
