Thick fog disrupts flight, vessels operations in Ctg

  • Print

Dense fog and cold spell partially paralyzed the life in Chittagong and its adjacent areas with massive disruption of air, water and road communications causing untold sufferings to thousands of people.

Traffic control room of Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport (CSAIA) sources said dense fog disrupted flight operations at CSAIA today. Airport sources said the flight schedule of domestic and international flights was changed for two to four hours due to dense fogs.

Large number of Biman passengers passed night at the airport as three Mascot, Saudi Arabia and UAE bound international flights could not maintain schedule Friday night. Another Chittagong bound flight from UAE could not land and it was landed at Sylhet International Airport.

Three regular international flights scheduled to leave from Shah Amanat International Airport at 12 am, 1 am and 2 am respectively last night but could not leave before 10 am, 12 pm and 1 pm today respectively due to dense fog. Besides a domestic flight was forced to land at CSAIA as they could not land at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka due to dense fog.

On the other hand many of the domestic flights including Regent Airways and Novo Air have been rescheduled or delayed for one to three hours due to dense fog, airport sources said.  Radio control room of Chittagong port authority sources said due to thick fog plying of all kinds of ships in port channel remained suspended since last night.

The port authority abruptly prompted to impose a ban on movements of all vessels till 11 am today to and from Chittagong owing to poor visibility. However flight and vessel movements returned to normalcy at around 12 pm today when the fog started to lessen.
